What should I do if I find a nest of squirrels in the attic?
Squirrels are the beautiful creatures and are harmless as long as they stay on the trees out of the home boundaries. It is very common to find squirrels within your attic and this is a problem that affects so many people in different parts of the wild where they thrive. There are different signs that will tell you that there is a growing problem and they include the scratching, chirping and bumping sounds as the animals move about the artic.
When you are faced with such a problem, do not panic. There are many ways in which you can be able to handle an infestation or you can bring in a professional to take care of the issue. A professional will handle the matter and then guide you on ways in which you can be able to avoid infestations in the future.
The fact that squirrels chose to infiltrate you home and create their own home in the attic is not a surprise. Usually, such a thing is common with squirrels that are just about to give birth. The animals need a safe place that is clean and warm to raise their young. Since they are great climbers, the squirrels will be able to find any entry ways into the attic and they will make a home and a nest ready for their new bunch.
When you are removing the squirrels from the attic, you need to remember that they are very smart animals. Also, you need to take note that there is a very great possibility that there are some young ones within the attic and they need to be removed safely too.
When you find a nest of squirrels in the attic, there are a few things you can do depending on the scenario. In case the mother is not around, you can use the babies as live bait so as to capture the mother and then relocate them together. In case the mother has been trapped, you will need to take the babies and make sure that they are reunited with the mother on relocation.
There is the scenario where the mother may have already been moved, is dead or has abandoned the babies. Note that the babies cannot survive alone so a wildlife rehabilitator is the only chance that they have of survival.
